Liposuction in the lower extremities, in the last two decades, has become increasingly popular as a cosmetic surgery procedure. The procedure used to be linked with unsatisfactory results and complications. However, advances made in surgical techniques have addressed these issues.

Liposuction Overview

Generally, ankle and calf liposuction are not performed as standalone procedures. Rather, your surgeon will need to re-contour the entire lower leg for appealing results. The surgeon will also need to ensure that lower leg proportions are maintained. This is one of the reasons why calf and ankle liposuction is performed as a single procedure. Liposuction Procedure

A special cannula is used for performing calf and ankle liposuction. This is a thin steel tube that is delicately inserted into the fat layer of the ankles and calf though small incisions. Recovery and Results

Inflammation in lower leg liposuction may remain for much longer as compared to liposuction in the thighs and trunk.

You would be asked to wear a compression hose following the procedure for reducing and managing the inflammation. It can be frustrating to deal with prolonged inflammation. However, most patients consider it worth the trouble.
