Mommy Makeover Surgery

Mommy Makeover Surgery Risks And Safety Mommy makeover plastic surgery is generally very safe, but it does combine multiple cosmetic procedures. Unless you have chosen a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon, your chances of developing complications during or after your surgery may be higher. The extent of surgical risks will vary depending on the type of procedures you undergo.

Not all plastic surgeries are subjected to the same level of risks and complications. plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides mommy makeover surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding locations.

Potential risks

As mommy makeover is major surgery, you will most likely experience some post-surgical discomfort for a few days. Its intensity will depend on the extent of the surgery performed. Less invasive procedures such as liposuction will cause less discomfort compared to a tummy tuck or lower body lift and other intensive procedures.

Your surgeon will prescribe medication and other painkillers to help you manage the initial discomfort. However, if you still experience pain for longer than a week, you should consult your surgeon immediately based on the fact that this could be a sign of an infection.

Bruising and swelling

Shortly after your treatment, your treated sites may appear to be swollen or bruised. Bruises will improve within the first two weeks. An established plastic surgeon will make smaller incisions to minimize your post-surgical bruising and swelling.

However, swelling would at least a few weeks to subside. Even after 4 to 6 weeks, you may feel some swollen areas, but they wouldn’t be noticeable from outside. As soon as the swelling completely subsides, your mommy makeover results will become more apparent and appealing.

Constipation

Constipation is a common side effect of a mommy makeover procedure. This is more likely to occur if you undergo complicated and invasive procedures such as tummy tuck. In order to alleviate this temporary complication, drink at least six to eight glasses of water every day. Consult your doctor to see if there are any medications that could restore your bowel regularity.

Minimizing your risks

While your concerns about the potential risks and complications are understandable, you should that most of the risks are extremely rare. In addition, there are certain things that you could do to minimize its effect. The most important part is to choose a good plastic surgeon for your mommy makeover.

A considerate surgeon will listen to your concerns and help you attain your cosmetic goals without putting you at risk. The surgeon will follow a stringent quality and safety protocol, thereby reducing your chances of developing an infection or other complications.

Abide by the guidelines recommended by your surgeon to have a better and quicker recovery. Sleep is another factor that plays a pivotal role in your recovery. Obtain plenty of rest and wear compression garments to produce better and aesthetic results. You should also try to walk around your home and perform light activities in the early phase of your recovery, so that you can reduce the chances of blood clotting.

Most of the attention in plastic surgery is, appropriately, on the procedures themselves and the results. But proper care during recovery is critical to achieving great results, and compression is an important element in post-operative care. Compression type and duration can range from a day with compression bandages for a facelift to several weeks wearing an elastic compression garment after a tummy tuck, breast surgery, mommy makeover, or liposuction.

Compression garments are specially constructed from breathable fabric with anti-microbial properties. They are form-fitted to your body to apply gentle pressure and hold your curves and contours in place as your body heals.

Why is compression so crucial after plastic surgery? Here are some of the key ways compression promotes healing:

Reduce Swelling

The body’s natural response after surgery is to flood the area with additional fluids. Some of this is helpful and a necessary part of the healing process. But the accumulation of excessive fluids can result in swelling that actually gets in the way of healing. Fluids can become trapped in the area, causing discomfort and slowing recovery. Compression keeps swelling in check and helps your body absorb these excess fluids. The less swelling you have, the faster you’ll heal and the sooner you’ll see your final results.

Decrease Bruising

Some bruising is common after plastic surgery. It’s caused by injury to blood vessels and is the result of bleeding in the tissue below the skin’s surface. The purple or blue color you notice as a bruise is blood within the skin. Compression stops this type of bleeding and keeps escaped blood from spreading toward the surface of the skin. Compression may not eliminate bruising, but it helps to minimize it and keep it less visible. That speeds your progress to beautiful results.

Minimize Visible Scarring

Compression garments hold incisions in place and protect them, enabling them to heal quickly and cleanly. Pressure helps soften and flatten scars, making them less noticeable. By promoting healing, compression also speeds the progress of scars as they lighten and become less visible in the months after surgery.

Improve Comfort

Compression reduces pain and discomfort by supporting the treated area and reducing swelling. It helps you feel better, which helps you follow your recovery care plan. Compression garments also protect the treated area from accidental bumps and pokes, which might otherwise be painful.

Contour and Shape Your Body

With a body contouring procedure such as breast surgery, a tummy tuck, or liposuction, the compression garment helps your body form its new shape as it heals. It also holds your skin in place and keeps it smooth, especially after a slimming procedure like liposuction. Some patients report that a compression garment helps them move more easily after surgery and improves their posture.

Reduce the Risk of Infection

Compression garments hold bandages in place and provide an extra protective layer, helping to keep the incision area sterile.

Mommy Makeover

Getting a mommy makeover is akin to a whole-body transformation. It is one of the most impactful cosmetic surgery procedures for women who want to restore their pre-pregnancy figure. However, your surgeon will only encourage you to choose this procedure only after carefully assessing your health and aesthetic priorities.

You should freely share your goals and aspirations with your surgeon and ask questions to clear your doubts during the initial preoperative consultation. This will help you in making an informed decision. It is best to write down the questions in advance so that you wouldn’t miss any of your pertinent concerns while speaking with your surgeon.

plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides mommy makeover surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding communities.

Do you have a board certification in plastic surgery?

You should have a fair idea about the surgeon’s qualifications, training and experience in performing procedures such as a mommy makeover cosmetic surgery. You should preferably choose a surgeon who is in plastic surgery. A  surgeon will maintain high standards of care, invest in ongoing education, and follow the latest safety protocols. Board certification in plastic surgery is the single most authentic assurance for a patient about the surgeon’s excellence in the field.

Will you customize my mommy makeover surgery and make it less invasive?

Most cosmetic procedures that are part of a mommy makeover can be customized to meet your specific needs. With this approach, your plastic surgeon can make the procedure more targeted and less invasive. You should choose a surgeon who does not believe in a one size fits all approach, and has the necessary expertise to tailor the mommy makeover surgery according to your unique anatomical and aesthetic requirements.

Do you have operating privileges at a local hospital or surgery center?

Your surgeon may offer the options of a hospital, a surgical center or a private surgical suite for the surgery venue. Ideally, they should have hospital privileges at one or more of the local hospitals. This will provide you easy access to the hospital in the rare event of an emergency. Hospitals also perform detailed background checks before granting staff privileges to surgeons, which can serve as further reassurance of the surgeon’s capabilities.

What are the risks, complications and downtime involved?

A dedicated surgeon will take care to inform you clearly about the potential risks and complications associated with a major cosmetic surgery procedure such as mommy makeover. This will enable you to make a well-considered decision. The surgeon will also inform about the estimated downtime involved in the procedure. For working people and busy moms, it is particularly important to know how long it will take to recover and when they can resume their normal activities.

What are the estimated costs of the surgery?

As mommy makeover is an elective procedure, the chances of getting insurance reimbursement are low. Therefore, you should seek clarification on the cost aspects including both pre and post-operative expenses. You should ask whether your surgeon’s office can provide guidance on financing options. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and nearby areas for mommy makeover surgery.

Facelift techniques have advanced dramatically in recent years to produce subtle and natural-looking results. A facelift can reverse signs of aging like jowls, sagging skin in the midface, and deep creases below the eyes and at the corners of the mouth. The results are a smoother, younger-looking face with a more defined jawline. Many patients also choose to combine their facelift with another procedure.

By combining plastic surgery procedures, you can achieve your ideal look faster and with a single recovery period. A skilled and experienced plastic surgeon can combine procedures to give you a naturally younger and fresher appearance, as well as bring your facial features into better harmony.

Here are a few recommended procedures that can greatly complement your facelift results.

Brow Lift

A facelift corrects the effects of aging in the middle and lower part of the face — below your eyes. A brow lift, or forehead lift, restores a younger look to the upper part of the face. It subtly raises droopy eyebrows for a more alert look. It also smooths the lines and furrows on the forehead and between the eyebrows that can make a person appear angry, sad, or tired.

By combining a facelift with a brow lift, you’ll get a more complete refresh of your face without additional recovery time. You’ll look younger, more relaxed, and more alert.

Eyelid Surgery

The other upper-face procedure that is commonly combined with a facelift is eyelid surgery. The same aging process that causes the skin on the lower face and around the jaws to stretch and sag can cause the eyelids to droop, giving you a sleepy and prematurely aged appearance.

Upper eyelid surgery can make the eyes appear brighter, younger, and more attentive, and can remove fatty deposits from the lids that make them heavy and difficult to raise fully. Lower eyelid surgery lifts drooping lower lids and reduces the puffy appearance caused by fat buildup below the eyes.

Combining a facelift with eyelid surgery shifts the focus of your face from loose, hanging skin around your jawline to brighter, more beautiful, and alert eyes.

Nose Surgery or Rhinoplasty

Nose surgery or rhinoplasty can also be performed in combination with a facelift. As the central feature of the face, the nose defines your appearance in important ways. Nose surgery can change the size or shape of the nose in many ways and is a highly customized procedure. It can change the shape of the tip of your nose, modify the bridge of your nose, narrow the span between your nostrils, and even change the angle between the nose and the upper lip.

Rhinoplasty can be performed to make subtle changes that keep your nose in harmony with your rejuvenated face after a facelift. Or it can be done to make more significant changes to your nose to bring it into better balance with your other facial features.

Mommy Makeover Surgery

What to Expect During Your Mommy Makeover Surgery Consultation The first crucial element that lays the foundation for a successful cosmetic surgery is the preoperative consultation. It is a session where you will closely engage with your surgeon prior to your mommy makeover procedure. This not only helps you in understanding the procedure but also enables you to make more objective decisions.

During this consultation, you will get an opportunity to ask questions to your surgeon and clarify all of your doubts before proceeding. Your surgeon will provide all instructions beginning from the preparation to recovery. Your cosmetic surgeon will evaluate your candidacy for different procedures than may be included in your mommy makeover surgery.

plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides mommy makeover surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding locations.

Getting to know more about mommy makeover

A dedicated surgeon will strive hard to educate you on all aspects of the mommy makeover. Your surgeon will discuss both the benefits and risks of a mommy makeover, before going through the steps involved in the procedure and the estimated recovery after the surgery is complete.

Your surgeon will motivate you to make a judicious and well-considered decision. It’s vital for you to make this decision independently, and not under the influence of someone else. If you make a careful decision, then you are more likely to attain better satisfaction levels from the procedure.

Treatment options

Mommy makeover plastic surgery will likely include several procedures in order to meet your cosmetic goals. During the preoperative consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your unique anatomical and personal aesthetic requirements so that they could create the right configuration.

Your surgeon will discuss with you various procedures such as tummy tuck, breast augmentation, body lift, liposuction, breast lift, and some non-surgical treatments that may be included in the mommy makeover. Based on your requirements, they will create a customized mommy makeover plan.

Questions and answers

Feel free to ask questions to your surgeon during the consultation process. Your surgeon will encourage you to share your doubts and concerns so that they could clear them before proceeding. A respectable surgeon will provide comprehensive and accurate answers to all questions.

It is a perspicacious idea to create a list of questions in advance so that you could ask all of them during your consultation. This will ensure you that none of the vital questions are missed out.

Guidelines, images, and costs associated with mommy makeover

Your surgeon will utilize the preoperative consultation to discuss the general guidelines that need to be followed before and after the surgery. You should be well-prepared to follow these instructions diligently in order to achieve a safe and predictable outcome.

You should frankly ask questions about the estimated costs and your financing options. You may request for mommy makeover before and after images of your surgeon’s past patients, so that you could get a realistic perspective on what to expect after the surgery.

Everyone is advised to wash our hands frequently and thoroughly to protect ourselves from COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends washing hands with soap and cold or lukewarm water for at least 20 seconds to rid our hands of germs. When we’re out and about, without access to soap and water, using a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol is a good alternative. Whether using soap and water or hand sanitizer, we’re advised to clean the fronts and backs of our hands, between our fingers, and around our nails.

That’s good advice to protect yourself from disease, but what about protecting the skin on your hands from the dryness that frequent handwashing and sanitizing can cause?

How Frequent Handwashing and Sanitizing Can Lead to Dry and Cracked Skin

Soap and water wash away germs, but they can also strip your skin of the natural, protective oils that act as a shield on the surface of the skin and help it retain moisture. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers can be even harsher on the skin, as they have a powerful drying effect.

However, dry skin is not a good enough reason to wash your hands less frequently. The science behind the disease-prevention effects of handwashing is strong. But you also need to take good care of the skin on your hands. Dryness can lead to rashes, itching, flaking, and even cracks in the skin. These effects are not only uncomfortable, they can leave you vulnerable to superficial skin infections.

How to Wash Your Hands to Avoid Dryness

Use a mild, moisturizing soap. Any type of soap will remove germs if you wash your hands thoroughly. That includes dish soap, moisturizing soap, and “natural” soap. The ingredients in moisturizing soap, such as glycerin, lanolin, and hyaluronic acid, help to counteract the drying effect of washing. Soaps with natural moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil, or jojoba oil can also help reduce skin dryness. Liquid soaps can be less drying than bar soap.

Added chemicals and fragrances in some soaps can irritate the skin. If you have sensitive skin, eczema, or a history of allergies to any cosmetic products, take special care to choose a mild soap without irritating ingredients.

Wash hands with cold or lukewarm water. Hot water is no more effective in removing germs than cold water, and it is much harder on your skin.

Pat your hands dry with a clean towel. Don’t rub or scrub at your hands to dry them. Just dab to get the excess moisture off, as rubbing can further irritate skin that is already at a disadvantage from the washing.

Moisturize Immediately After Every Handwashing

Right after you wash your hands, while they are still slightly damp, apply a thick moisturizer to your skin.

Creams and ointments are better than lotions for moisturizing, and moisturizers that come in a tube or jar are better than those that come in a pump bottle. Effective ingredients to look for include mineral oil, petrolatum, lanolin, or glycerin. Some prefer to use natural moisturizing oils, such as coconut oil or shea butter. If you have sensitive skin or allergies, look for a fragrance-free hand cream that doesn’t include chemicals that might irritate your skin.

Moisturizers restore the protective barrier that natural oils in your skin would normally provide without frequent hand-washing. Despite the name, moisturizers don’t add moisture to your skin. Instead, they help your skin retain water. They also soothe irritated skin and restore a smooth texture to skin that is rough or flaky from dryness.

Try Extra Nighttime Treatments

If the skin on your hands is still dry or irritated, even with gentle washing and regular applications of moisturizer, you might try an extra treatment at night. Before you go to bed, apply moisturizing cream or ointment — petroleum jelly is a good choice — and cover your hands with cotton gloves. The gloves help keep the product on your skin and provide an extra layer of moisture retention.

Mommy Makeover

Giving birth is a most fulfilling experience for a woman, but it does take a toll on her physical appearance. Pregnancy can cause development of fat pockets in certain areas, loss of skin elasticity, and uneven body contours. During breastfeeding, your breasts may increase in size, and eventually sag when the lactation ends.

Pregnancy also causes changes in the abdominal region. Your abdominal muscles may sag, skin may stretch, and in some cases, the lower body may also lose its sharp, youthful contours. These conditions can be effectively reversed with a mommy makeover cosmetic surgery, which will restore your pre-pregnancy figure.

At the time of your initial consultation, the surgeon will determine whether you are a fit candidate for a mommy makeover. plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides mommy makeover surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA and surrounding locations.

Your Body Fat is Resistant to Diet and Exercise

After your pregnancy, if you have been struggling to get rid of excess fatty tissue deposits in certain areas of the body, or have loose skin and distended breasts, you may want to consider a mommy makeover plastic surgery. It may be difficult to eliminate loose skin and stretch marks through diet or exercise. If the fat bulges are stubborn and resistant to natural fat loss efforts, you may be a candidate for a mommy makeover.

You are not Planning another Pregnancy

Although you can have children after your mommy makeover cosmetic surgery, but it will compromise the aesthetic effects you have achieved through your surgery. Therefore, an ideal candidate for this procedure would be someone who has no plans for another pregnancy in the foreseeable future. You should also not have any plans to undergo a major weight loss surgery after a mommy makeover as that will again leave you with loose skin.

Normal or C-Section Delivery

You can be a candidate for a mommy makeover, no matter whether you had a normal delivery or through a C-section. The C-section delivery may leave some scarring around your abdomen, which can be improved with a mommy makeover. If you have had hernia after childbirth (particularly if you had twins or triplets) it can also be resolved with a mommy makeover surgery.

At least Six Months have Passed after Childbirth

Childbirth is a major physical event for your body, and you need time to nurse your baby and allow your body to recover naturally. It may be ideal to wait for about six months before you consider a mommy makeover surgery. During this period, your breasts, abdomen, and other body areas will settle into their natural shape. This will allow you to discuss a more appropriate and comprehensive mommy makeover plan with your surgeon.

Other Pre-requisites

You should be in good general health, and not have any underlying medical conditions that could interfere with your surgery or recovery. You should be committed to avoid smoking for a few weeks before and after the surgery as per your surgeon’s instructions.

Candidates with realistic expectations will achieve the best satisfaction levels after their mommy makeover surgery. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and nearby areas for mommy makeover surgery.

Dermal fillers are an easy and effective way to treat yourself to a younger and more attractive look. They can add volume to your cheeks, enhance your lips, fill the hollows under your eyes, and soften facial lines and wrinkles. But the improvements they make aren’t permanent. The natural substances used in fillers, such as hyaluronic acid, are gradually metabolized by your body. Depending on the filler used and how you care for your skin, you may need refresher injections after six months to two years.

Are there things you can do to make your filler treatments last longer? There certainly are. We’ll explain some of the key ones here.

Protect Your Skin from the Sun

The UV rays in sunlight have a powerful aging effect on the skin, causing roughness and discoloration and speeding the development of lines and wrinkles. They can also accelerate the breakdown of the substances used in fillers. Protect your skin and your investment in fillers by shielding your face from excess sun exposure. Avoid being out in the sun during peak exposure hours (between 10 am and 3 pm). If you do need to be out in the sun, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and wear sunglasses and a hat with a wide brim.

Practice Healthy Skin Care

Keep your skin moisturized by drinking plenty of water and regularly applying a high-quality moisturizer. This will enhance the effects of the fillers and slow their absorption by your body. If you’re not sure which moisturizer to use, your plastic surgeon or filler provider can recommend skincare products that will complement your specific filler treatment.

Manage Your Stress

High levels of stress trigger the release of hormones that speed the skin’s aging process. You can’t eliminate stress from your life, but you can learn ways to manage it. Pay attention to the signs of stress and practice stress-lowering techniques such as meditation, yoga, or simply deep breathing. Habits of positive thinking can also help, such as learning to accept what you can’t control and reminding yourself of everything you are grateful for.

Eat Healthy Foods

Eating a healthy balance of foods, including whole grains, lean proteins, and several servings of fruits and vegetables a day can extend the effect of fillers while improving your overall health. Highly processed foods and added sugars can increase inflammation in your body, which can speed up the rate at which your fillers are metabolized.

Get Regular Exercise, but in Moderation

The speed at which fillers are absorbed by your body is closely related to your metabolism. Regular exercise is important to good health and the health of your skin, but overdoing it with intensive exercise can shorten the life of your filler treatment. If you’re an athlete or avid about your fitness, that may be an acceptable trade-off. Just keep in mind that you may need refresher treatments sooner if you step up your workouts.

Plan for Maintenance Treatments

The best way to extend your filler results is to plan for regular maintenance or “top off” treatments, rather than waiting until your results wear off. This will keep you looking fresher and younger in a consistent way. You might also combine maintenance filler treatments with injections of Botox, which can extend the filler results by reducing muscle movement.

Mommy Makeover

The mommy makeover procedure is typically undertaken as elective surgery for cosmetic improvement, which means that you will need to pay for its costs out-of-pocket. This is a customizable procedure, and the costs may vary significantly between patients. To make an informed choice, you should discuss the costs involved in detail during the pre-operative consultation.

Various financing alternatives will be available to you to pay for this cosmetic surgery procedure in easy monthly installments. With financing support, the cost is not a prohibitive factor for many women seeking to regain their pre-pregnancy bodies through the mommy makeover procedure.

plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides mommy makeover surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding locations.

Variable Costs

During the pre-operative consultation, your surgeon will assess your unique aesthetic and anatomical needs and then recommend a suitable combination of procedures to be included in your mommy makeover surgery plan. The overall cost also depends on the procedures that form a part of your individualized mommy makeover.

While some patients need only minor surgical correction in the breasts or tummy area, others require more significant enhancement in many areas such as the butt, thighs, abdomen, breasts, and upper arms. The procedure costs in every case will depend on the complexity and extent of the surgery involved.

Today many women choose to add minimally invasive or non-invasive cosmetic body contouring or skin resurfacing procedures involving laser, radio frequency, ultrasound, cooling techniques, or injections along with their mommy makeover plastic surgery procedure. Each individual procedure’s cost will add to the total costs of your mommy makeover.

Cost Effectiveness

Your upfront costs of a mommy makeover costs will possibly be higher than the cost of an individual cosmetic surgery procedure. However, a mommy makeover will have a better cost-effectiveness. The reason is that in mommy makeover procedures, costs associated with surgery such as surgical venue expenses, anesthesia costs, surgeon’s fee, and recovery related costs are incurred only one time.

In a combined procedure such as a mommy makeover, you will undergo the recovery process only once. Therefore, the overall recovery time will be reduced and the post-operative expenses will be reduced in comparison to a situation where you undergo separate surgical procedures at different times.

Cost Factors

The cost of the mommy makeover surgery will be affected by some key factors such as the practice location, surgical venue costs, anesthesia costs, and post-op expenses. The costs of the procedure will likely be higher in busy metropolitan cities and prime urban centers in comparison to small, interior towns.

The fee charged by your surgeon will depend on their experience, qualifications, and reputation in the field of aesthetic surgery. The mommy makeover procedure can be performed at an accredited surgery center or a hospital, and the costs and benefits will vary in each case.

Financing

You may consider financing your mommy makeover through third-party medical care financing companies. These firms offer patients competitive rates of interest, faster loan approvals, and convenient monthly installments for elective surgery procedures such as a mommy makeover.

Cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA and nearby areas for mommy makeover surgery.
