A tummy tuck can work wonders in transforming your midsection. The procedure removes excess skin and fat and tightens your abdominal muscles for a smooth, flat, youthful look. But it’s a major surgical intervention and requires time for recovery. That includes plenty of rest and some special steps for healthy sleep.
As with any plastic surgery procedure, you will experience some swelling in the treated area in the days after surgery. Sleeping in a gently propped-up position helps drain the area and reduce swelling while your body heals.
With a tummy tuck, there’s an added need to keep the abdomen from stretching during the early stages of healing, which can pull at the incisions. We’ll instruct you to sleep with a slight bend at your hips and your knees as if you are reclining in a beach chair. This position lets the tissue recover and helps minimize discomfort.
There are two main ways to prop yourself up for elevated sleep after a tummy tuck: using pillows on your bed or sleeping in a recliner.
A basic arrangement on your bed might include two or more pillows under your head and upper torso, one to lift your knees, and one under each arm. The goal is to have the pillows support a flex at your waist, not just raise your head and shoulders. It’s a good idea to experiment with the pillow arrangement before your surgery and practice sleeping in this elevated position. That way, you’ll have the needed pillows on hand when you come home from the surgery, and it will be a familiar and comfortable sleeping position to you.
You may want to buy a wedge pillow. This specially shaped cushion raises your upper body and is less likely to move while you sleep. If you find your normal pillows too thin to lift your knees, you might try a bolster, such as those used for yoga.
If you have a recliner, that can be an even better option for sleep after your tummy tuck. Most recliners are adjustable to support your back and your legs at different angles. And, a recliner provides support on both sides, so you are less likely to move out of position during sleep. Some recliners also tilt forward to help you get up after sleep.
How long you’ll need to sleep in this reclined position will depend on the type of tummy tuck surgery you have. Your surgeon will advise you as part of your recovery care plan. After a mini tummy tuck, you’ll need to sleep in an elevated position for a least a week and possibly for two or three weeks. After a full tummy tuck, you should expect to sleep with your upper body raised for at least two weeks and up to four to six weeks.
In addition to following the advice of your surgeon as to the timing, listen to your body. Until it’s comfortable to straighten your torso, it will likely be painful to lie flat on your back or your stomach. If you are naturally a side sleeper and have trouble adjusting to propped-up sleep, your surgeon may advise you to try sleeping on your side, without extra pillows, once the swelling from the procedure has gone down.
Rest and sleep are crucial to your healing after surgery. Follow a regular bedtime routine, just as you normally would, to get your body into a healthy sleep cycle. Wearing compression garments at all times, even while you sleep, can ease discomfort, as can appropriate use of pain medication.

Breast lift with augmentation is a safe and proven cosmetic surgery procedure to correct your sagging and deflated breasts through a combined tissue lifting and implant placement. After your surgery, you will need to go through a recovery process for a few days. A strong recovery is vital to achieving desirable and sustainable results from your surgery.
plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides breast lift with implants surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding communities.
You will experience mild pain and soreness in your incision areas after the effects of general anesthesia wear off. For the first few days, you can take pain medications as prescribed by your surgeon. Bruising and swelling will appear more pronounced in the first week, but will begin to subside from the second week.
You should perform short walks and light activities at home in the first week. This will help ensure that the blood flow to the incision sites is maintained and healing is faster. Around the mid or end of second week, you should have recovered enough to return to your normal routine or go back to your job.
Avoid sleeping on your abdomen or sides for the first two to three weeks after your breast augmentation with lift plastic surgery. Do not bend or lift heavy weights or perform any activities that put excess strain on your chest.
Avoid showering or bathing in the first one or two days after your procedure, and ask your surgeon when they would recommend you to resume normal bathing routine. Raising your hands to wash hair in the first few days may be difficult, but your condition will improve rapidly from the second week.
Treat your incision areas with extra care in the first few weeks to ensure your wounds heal well and the subsequent scarring is minimized. Make sure the surgical dressings applied to the incision sites remain clean and dry. In a few days, your surgeon will replace the dressings with a special surgical bra for extra support to your tissue.
Protect incisions against direct sun exposure for several weeks or months. Avoid smoking throughout the recovery phase to ensure that your healing is healthy and scarring is under control. Talk to your surgeon about any topical scar reduction products they may recommend.
You can resume your regular fitness and exercise regimen in about four to six weeks once your surgeon gives you the go-ahead for it. You may also consider massage therapy in the breast area from a trained therapist if your surgeon advises.
Even after four to six weeks, you may continue to avoid strenuous sports activities that put more strain on the chest (such as golf or tennis) for some more time. Long-term focus on a healthy diet and regular exercise will help improve the longevity of your results of breast implants with lift surgery.

Breast augmentation with lift cosmetic surgery is a combination of mastopexy or breast lift with breast implants surgery. The procedure is usually performed for cosmetic breast enhancement, but may sometimes be used as part of breast reconstruction. Both the lift and implants procedures are executed in a single surgical session.
Breast lift will make your breasts positioned at a higher, more youthful level, while breast augmentation will add fullness and volume to the upper pole of your breasts. Your surgeon may perform this surgery as an outpatient procedure, and it will take about 90 to 150 minutes inside the operating room.
plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides breast lift with implants surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding locations.
After you have been placed under general anesthesia, your surgeon will create incisions in pre-determined sites to perform your breast implants with lift plastic surgery. The surgeon may first address your breast augmentation procedure to estimate how much of loose breast tissue will have to be removed once the implants are placed.
In many cases, the surgeon may place an incision below the breast fold and place the implants through it under the chest muscle. The incision provides an access to the pectoral muscle and will also be used in the second phase of the procedure when breast lift is performed.
Your surgeon will aim to place the incisions in discreet locations and make use of common incision to perform breast tissue lifting as well as implant placement. An anchor incision is often used to perform a significant breast lift. Your surgeon will be able to address the excess breast tissue both vertically and horizontally with this technique.
The combined surgery will enhance your breast size, correct the sagginess, create a firmer and perkier breast appearance, and reposition or resize the areolas to a more natural looking position. Once the surgery is over, your surgeon will close the incisions with sutures. For the first two to three days, your breasts will be wrapped in bandages, and then replaced with a special surgical bra.
You will feel some pain and soreness in the incision areas in the first few days after your breast implants with lift surgery. Your surgeon will prescribe pain meds to keep your comfortable.
Within 10 to 14 days after your surgery, you can go back to work or resume your daily activities. However, you will have to refrain from strenuous exercises, bending, and lifting of heavy weights for about three to four weeks.
Most women are satisfied with their final surgical results because the breast implants with lift procedure enhances your upper body appearance in multiple ways, providing a fuller and firmer breast figure, while adding a desirable cleavage.
You will be able to notice the results almost immediately after your plastic surgery. However, the initial swelling and bruising will take some time to resolve, and the results will become more visible and established over the next several weeks and months.

Breast augmentation with implants is the most sought-after plastic surgery in America. More than 300,000 women have the procedure every year. But despite its widespread acceptance and tremendous popularity, misconceptions persist that cause some women to hesitate.
We’ll look here at six of the most common breast augmentation myths and explain the real facts.
When performed by a skilled plastic surgeon and tailored to the natural proportions of your body, breast implants can make your breasts look like a more natural fit with your silhouette while boosting your allure. The secret is to choose the appropriate size, shape, and position for the implants. Your plastic surgeon will advise you on those choices, based on your anatomy and your wishes for enhancement.
It’s true that breast implants don’t last forever. Eventually, the implants may leak or rupture. But it’s common for implants to last without problems for 10 or 15 years or even longer.
With saline implants, leakage will cause deflation — with cosmetic but not health effects. With silicone implants, leakage will require surgical removal. In either case, you’ll have the choice of replacing the implants or having them removed and allowing your breasts to go back to their former size. A breast lift can help reshape the breasts if you have your implants removed or replaced.
You may also choose, at any time, to remove or replace the implants because your ideal body shape has changed. This choice is personal, unrelated to any specific timing.
Breast implants add volume and can improve the shape of your breasts, but they are not the answer for sagging breasts. That issue results from a gradual loss of skin elasticity. If you want to add volume to your breasts, but also want to improve their drooping appearance, breast augmentation combined with a breast lift may be the answer.
Breast augmentation, when carefully performed, should not affect the ability to breastfeed. And studies analyzing the quality of breast milk produced by mothers with silicone implants have found no evidence of silicone in their milk. If the future ability to breastfeed is a concern for you, discuss it in your consultation with the plastic surgeon. You may decide, together, on an approach to the procedure that minimizes the risk of problems, such as placing the incision below the breast, rather than around the nipple, or placing the implants below the chest muscle.
While breast augmentation is popular among women in their 20s and 30s, it is also a top choice of many women in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s.
Breast size and shape can change with pregnancy and breastfeeding, so many women wait to get implants when they are finished having children. Other older women have implants to make themselves look and feel better. As long as you are in good health, there is no upper age limit for the procedure.
When considering breast augmentation, you should look for a plastic surgeon. To produce beautiful and natural-looking results, a plastic surgeon must have experience and demonstrated skill in performing the procedure and the aesthetic sense to guide the choice of size, shape, and placement of the implants. Review credentials, ask about experience, and look at before-and-after pictures when choosing a plastic surgeon.

Breast augmentation and breast lift cosmetic surgery rank among the most sought-after procedures for upper body aesthetic enhancement. Women who want to increase their breast size, fullness, and volume may choose breast implant surgery.
In other cases, where a woman has no problems with her breast size, but suffers from drooping breasts due to skin laxity, she could benefit from a breast lift surgery.
But there are times when a woman may want both increased breast size and a lifted breast position. This is when she may have to choose breast implants with lift surgery.
This combined procedure offers a number of advantages over a standalone surgery, but it will also have some limitations. During the pre-op consultation, your surgeon will discuss the pros as well as cons of the surgery in order to help you make an informed decision.
plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides breast lift with implants surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding communities.
When breast augmentation is combined with breast lift plastic surgery, it effectively becomes a single procedure rather than two separate procedures being performed at separate intervals. This creates intrinsic advantages for you, especially if you are a good candidate for a combined breast procedure.
You will undergo general anesthesia only one time, and you will visit the surgery center only once for your breast lift with implants procedure. This reduces your risk in the sense that you will be exposed to the potential side effects and complications related to surgery and anesthesia only once.
The surgery is performed at one time, which means you will have to go through the pre-op preparation process just one time. At the same time, just one recovery period is involved, and you will go through the post-surgical discomfort and downtime only once.
Importantly, with a combined breast implants with lift cosmetic surgery, your surgeon will have an opportunity to create a more conservative and comprehensive outcomes. The surgeon can ensure that both lifting of the breast tissue and placing of implants are carried out using common incisions.
The precise amount of excess skin removal can be determined and appropriate implant size can be selected when the surgeon has an opportunity to perform both surgeries together.
The cost-effectiveness of the procedure also improves because you will incur various cost components, such as pre- and post-op expenses, surgeon’s fee, anesthesia costs, surgery center expenses, and costs of medical tests, surgical bra and prescription drugs only once.
Although a breast augmentation with lift surgery allows for a more conservative approach for incision placement, the overall procedure will be more invasive than a single procedure. Recovery period will slightly longer too. While the cost-effectiveness is better, the total upfront cost of the combined surgery would usually be higher than that of a standalone procedure.
You should also remember that even with a combined procedure, your risk of implant failure due to capsular contracture or other extraneous circumstances remains the same. It is best to weigh the pros and cons in consultation with your surgeon and then make a judicious decision.

Aging, gravity, pregnancy, and breastfeeding can take a toll on your breasts, causing them to deflate in some cases, or sag and hang lower on your body. If you are struggling with both these conditions at the same time, you can benefit from breast augmentation with lift cosmetic surgery.
This procedure is designed to increase your breast size as well as provide firmness and a subtle lift to your breasts to make them look more youthful. plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides breast lift with implants surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding locations.
If you are bothered by the appearance of your sagging breasts, which have also lost volume and fullness over time, you could be a candidate for breast lift with implants plastic surgery. In this condition, your bras may not fit you the same way any longer, and you may feel embarrassed to wear a swimsuit or a low cut top. These are signs that you may need a comprehensive corrective procedure for your breasts.
Ideal candidates are within a moderate body weight range, in good general health, and do not have plans to become pregnant or undergo a major weight loss procedure in the near future.
A combined breast augmentation with lift surgery can have a transformative effect on both the size and volume of breasts and their firmness and position on the chest. Your surgeon will have more flexibility to perform the combined surgery in a way that your excess breast skin removal and implant size are optimized using common incisions.
The combined surgery is more customizable and will allow you to anticipate what your final results will look like. You will be more satisfied with the outcome and will likely experience a boost in your personal confidence and relationships.
Breast lift with augmentation surgery is performed using general anesthesia. Your surgeon may be able to complete the procedure in about two to three hours, and you can go home the same day. After you have been placed under anesthesia, your surgeon will begin the procedure by placing the incisions as planned during your consultation process.
Through the incisions, the surgeon will create implant pockets and place the implants under or over the pectoral muscle as planned. Once the implants are adjusted into position, the surgeon will have a clear idea of how much excess breast skin must be removed for breast lift.
The breast lift will also involve tightening of the tissue, and resizing or repositioning of the areolas and nipples to a higher level. Once the surgery is completed, your surgeon will close the incisions with removable or absorbable sutures.
You can expect to resume your normal routine or return to your workplace in about 10 to 14 days after your breast implants with lift surgery. However, you should continue to avoid vigorous activities for about four to six weeks to allow the healing to be completed safely.

Breast implants are not meant to last forever. The FDA says that most women who undergo breast augmentation cosmetic surgery may require a revision procedure at some point in the future.
However, it is impossible to predict the exact timeline. In 2011, an FDA study found that only about one in five women with breast implants would need a removal or removal within the first 10 years of her primary surgery.
This is encouraging data, particularly because it pertains to about a decade ago. The quality of implants and surgical techniques have dramatically improved over these years, and now the chances are that implant failure rates would have gone down further.
You can safely expect that for a vast majority of patients, breast implants will last without any complication for at least 15 to 20 years or more. plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides cosmetic and reconstructive procedures for the breast, body, and face to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding locations.
The key to longevity of your breast augmentation plastic surgery results is the skill and experience of the surgeon who performed the primary procedure. However, in the long run, complications such as implant rupture or capsular contracture could still manifest itself. These will have to be corrected through breast implant removal or exchange surgery.
At some point in the future, you might end up choosing to have your breast implants removed or replaced purely for aesthetic reasons. You might have a need for smaller or larger sized implants to fit your changed figure in the future.
Weight fluctuations, pregnancy and aging effects could also affect your breast appearance at some point, and you may want to have your implants removed or replaced, or undergo a breast lift to restore a more youthful shape.
If your saline breast implant is ruptured, it will deflate quickly, and the changes to your breast shape will become noticeable. If a silicone gel implant is ruptured, you may not even come to know about it until you have an MRI. In any case, once the rupture is diagnosed, you will need an implant removal or replacement plastic surgery.
The natural scar tissue that develops around your implant may sometimes start becoming harder without any known reason. This will cause your implant to contract and you may feel tightness and pain in the breast. In most cases, this will require you to undergo a breast implant removal or exchange procedure.
At some point, you may feel that your breasts appear asymmetrical. In some cases, the implant may shift from its position or become deformed, causing a visible distortion to the breast appearance. Implant rippling may occur in some cases, which will show on the surface of your breast skin. In all these situations, you may need to have your implants removed or replaced.

Facelift surgery has been around for more than 100 years, and with each generation, the results have grown subtler and more natural-looking. The “windswept” look of facelifts past has fallen out of favor, replaced by today’s naturally youthful look — done with such artistry that friends and family members who aren’t in the know often can’t tell what gives your face that new sparkle.
Medical historians believe surgeons developed and performed the first facelift between 1901 and 1906, though records are incomplete. From what we can tell, these early facelifts were simple skin excisions: A doctor removed a strip of skin at the edge of the face and pulled the remaining skin tighter to reduce sagging and wrinkles. Advances in reconstructive surgery during World War I pushed the procedure a few steps forward. Facelift surgeons in the 1920s separated the skin from the underlying layer of fat before tightening it, preserving facial volume, and giving somewhat better results. Doctors also refined the placement of incisions to make scarring less visible.
The next significant improvements in facelift surgery came in the 1960s and ‘70s when pioneering surgeons began to sculpt the facial tissue below the skin as part of the procedure. At first, in the 1960s, they modified the volume of the fat just beneath the skin. Over time, they began to go deeper, until, by the late 1970s, some began to work on the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS), which includes the muscles and connective tissue that cover the bones of the face. This milestone marked the first significant change in facelift surgery in 70 years.
By the 1980s, the most advanced plastic surgeons were approaching facelifts from the inside out — lifting and reshaping the underlying facial muscles to provide a younger-looking structure for the smoothed skin on the surface. They also introduced new methods to reshape fat and tighten skin along the jawline for a more complete effect.
This shift to include the underlying SMAS in facelift surgery marked a distinct turning point in facelift results. Skin-only facelifts had required extra tautness, and the stretched results were sometimes all too obvious. Reshaping the foundational musculature of the face required surgeons to remove less skin to provide lift and remove wrinkles. So the results were both more natural-looking and longer-lasting.
The best plastic surgeons today still resculpt the underlying SMAS as part of a full facelift procedure. They also go even deeper to release the SMAS from the ligaments below them and elevate the facial tissue by resuspending it slightly higher on the face. This “deep-plane” technique gives a naturally younger look to the face, restoring contours that have fallen with age.
Today’s plastic surgeons have other techniques in their toolkits, too, to add volume to areas of the face that have started to sag or become hollow and gaunt-looking. It’s a natural effect of aging to lose volume in our cheeks, for example, or under our eyes. The fullness and softness of our younger faces tend to thin and drift down as we grow older. So the plump cheeks we had at age 18 can become drooping jowls or a hanging chin in our 50s. Today, a facelift can correct these volume changes by including fat transplants or dermal fillers.
The best surgeons now customize your facelift by combining the latest surgical techniques with volumetric procedures to produce subtly beautiful results. And with advances to minimize incisions, reduce bruising, and promote faster recovery, you’ll be able to show off your results without as much downtime.

Breast implant rupture and capsular contracture are two different medical complications that could necessitate a breast implant removal plastic surgery. An experienced surgeon will first determine the cause of the implant failure, and then prepare a customized surgical plan for implant removal or replacement.
plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides cosmetic and reconstructive procedures for the breast, body and face to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding communities.
You may be a candidate for breast implant removal surgery for one of the following reasons:
Depending on how your primary breast augmentation cosmetic surgery was performed, your surgeon may be able to use the same incision site for your implant removal. This will minimize additional scarring. But if you have chosen different sized implants to replace your old implants, a new incision may have to be created.
In most cases, the incision will be placed underneath the breast crease or around the areola border to keep the scarring as discreet as possible.
Breast implant removal surgery is usually an outpatient procedure, which will take about one to three hours, depending on the situation. You will probably require general anesthesia, which means the procedure must be performed at an accredited surgery center.
It is best to have a family member or friend accompany you for surgery, and they can also drive you back safely after the procedure and post-op monitoring is completed. The surgeon will perform the procedure according to the customized surgical plan discussed with you at the time of pre-surgery consultations.
In many cases, the surgeon may decide to remove the implants along with the capsular scar tissue that envelopes the implant. If your skin has become stretched and the breasts tend to sag after years of implantation, your implant removal may be combined with a breast lift cosmetic surgery to restore the firmer and lifted appearance of the breasts.
In a few cases, your surgeon may perform a specialized breast implant removal procedure called en bloc capsulectomy. In this case, the implant will be removed while it is still contained with the scar tissue capsule. The complete capsule will be carefully excised from your breast pocket with the implant intact inside it.
The surgeon may have to decide on en bloc capsulectomy only after the incisions are placed and they are able to examine the condition of the capsular tissue and the breast pocket. You will have to discuss this possibility in advance at the time of your initial consultation.
Recovery in case of breast implant removal is similar to that of your primary breast augmentation surgery. Most women are able to go back to their normal routine in one to two weeks. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and nearby areas for dependable and proven plastic surgery procedures.
