Drinking tea has become one of the favored pastimes of Americans. Although it does not have the celebratory attributes that it enjoys in England, Americans are embracing the health benefits of tea. According to a new study and a recent online article black tea is the new color look for if you are concerned about preventing type II diabetes. According to the article black tea appears to control blood to close levels. In a study of 42 countries, researchers found that where there was higher black tea consumption there was a correlation with a lower risk of type II diabetes. Researchers analyzed countrywide sales of black tea and then did a data comparison with rates of respiratory, infectious, and cardiovascular diseases as well as cancer and diabetes as reported by the World Health Organization World Health Survey. The research was published in the Journal BMJ Open. It discovered on average that a population that drinks double the amount of black tea when compared to another country netted approximately 5% fewer cases of diabetes. There was no association with black tea consumption and the other four diseases. “This study is very interesting because it confirms a lot of different, small studies on the health benefits of black tea,” says Ariel Beresniak, Ph.D., chief executive officer of Data Mining International. Previous studies have pointed to evidence that black tea has antidiabetes properties, including that it improves pancreatic function in glucose-intolerant rats.
