While a rhinoplasty may be one of the least invasive plastic surgeries, the procedure still requires a robust recovery to enjoy the best results. We want you to rest, relax, and enjoy your recovery process. Preparation before your procedure is key to a successful recovery.

What should you have on hand for a rhinoplasty recovery? If you’re getting ready for a nose job, stock up on these goodies recommended by our Beverly Hills plastic surgeons. For more tips for a speedy rhinoplasty recovery, be sure to call Dr. David Kim and Dr. Eugene Kim at (310) 746-5475.

1. Lots of Pillows

Elevate, elevate, elevate. To reduce swelling, you’ll want to keep your head elevated in the days and weeks following surgery. Propping yourself up with plenty of pillows or a large wedge pillow can help you’re your head held high and ensure a comfortable night’s rest without the risk of accidentally rolling onto your new nose.

2. Icy Cold Compresses

We recommend getting small gel ice packs and plenty of them. The smaller size will make it easier to hold to your nose without weighing uncomfortably on the swollen tissue. Make sure you have several. You’ll want enough so that you can easily reach for a freshly frozen pack without having to worry about constantly replacing spent packs back to the freezer.

While cold compresses are a valuable key to fighting post-procedure swelling, remember that a little cold goes a long way. It is possible to over-ice the nose, creating damage and causing recovery complications. Limit your icing to 10-20 minutes per hour, spread throughout the day.

3. Well-Stocked Fridge

Protein and vitamin-rich foods will give your body the nutrition it needs to heal properly. Healthy foods will help rebuild damaged and healing tissue from the inside out while supporting a weakened immune system as your nose heals.

4. Humidifier

We’re warning you now – the internasal surgical packing will dry you out. Setting up humidifiers around your home and staying well hydrated can help alleviate the discomfort caused by a dry mouth or throat.

5. Chapstick

Speaking of drying out, patients should be prepared to exclusively mouth breathe for the first weeks following treatment. In addition to drying out your mouth, constant mouth breathing can also make dry out your lips and add to recovery discomfort. Use a lip balm frequently in the days and weeks following surgery to protect lips from chapping or cracking.

6. Nasal Spray

While our surgeons will give you a set of post-surgery instructions on how to best care for your recovering nose, sterilized saline spray can help keep your nose hydrated in the weeks after your splint is removed.

7. Curtains

Direct sunshine after any surgery can impact recovery and even increase your risk of sunburn or damage. When it comes to rhinoplasty, exposure to the sun can put you at risk of darkening scar tissue and increased swelling. We recommend recovering indoors, where it’s cool and staying out of direct sunlight.

8. Zip-Up Tops and Sweaters

When it comes to post-rhinoplasty recovery, the less your nose has to touch anything, the better. This extends not just to Kleenex, but also to sweatshirts and jackets. Zip-up hoodies and loose neck t-shirts can help keep you comfortable and minimize the risk of accidentally getting the bulky nose splint caught on clothing.

9. Facial Cleansing Pads and Tissues

Nothing feels better than a freshly washed face, but after rhinoplasty, you’ll need to take a brief hiatus from your usual skincare regimen. To help stay clean, you can wash with facial cleansing pads. Avoid getting water on your face until you’re cleared by your surgeon.

What Happens During a Medical Rhinoplasty?

Medical rhinoplasties vary widely. Some require a small modification to the nose to restore optimal breathing. Other procedures are more in-depth and require extensive surgical work. Will Rhinoplasty Change My Appearance?

Cosmetic rhinoplasty patients want their nose to have a different appearance, but many of our medical rhinoplasty patients are already happy with their appearance. Medical rhinoplasty can be paired with cosmetic rhinoplasty if you want to change your look and improve your breathing. What’s Recovery Like After Functional Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty Plastic Surgery

Nose is a central and aesthetically strategic part of the face, which will impact overall facial profile and balance. Therefore, a procedure such as rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery should ideally be performed by a fully trained and experienced surgeon who understands the delicate nuances of the nasal anatomy.

At the time of pre-operative consultation, the patient will have an opportunity to clarify all their doubts and concerns with the surgeon.

They should feel free to ask questions about the nose surgery procedure as well as the surgeon’s background and credentials. plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides rhinoplasty to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.

Key Questions to Ask

The patient should preferably prepare an advance list of all the questions they want to ask, and carry it along to the surgeon’s office at the time of initial consultation. Some of the vital questions may include:

Additional Guidance

It is a good idea for the patient to review the surgeon’s practice website prior to the rhinoplasty consultation. If necessary, the patient may also try to directly verify the surgeon’s credentials from the state medical board office.

They may also interact with past patients on reputed online discussion forums to gain more insights about rhinoplasty from a patient’s perspective. Experienced cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for nose surgery.

Rhinoplasty Surgery

Advance preparation is a vital aspect of any cosmetic surgery, including rhinoplasty. The chances of a successful nose surgery will increase when the patient is mentally and physically prepared for the procedure. It also makes the overall procedure safer and more predictable.

The patient should have the commitment to diligently follow the surgeon’s instructions for preparation. If they have any questions or doubts, they should freely ask the surgeon at any time prior to the surgery.

Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery, led by sagacious, committed, and plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim, provides rhinoplasty to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.

Prior to the Consultation

The preparation should preferably start from the day the patient makes up their mind to undergo rhinoplasty. The following steps may help the patient in saving their time during the consultation phase:

Fitness and Diet

The patient should start preparing for the surgery by taking balanced and nutritious meals. They should preferably focus on a high protein diet to prepare their body for faster healing.

It is also important to undertake a proper exercise regimen to build up the fitness level. It will boost the patient’s resilience and strengthen their mental and physical condition.

Before the Surgery

Rhinoplasty generally involves downtime of nearly a week. The patients should plan their absence from the work accordingly. They should also maintain a relatively low work burden during the second week. Therefore, they may have to discuss these issues with their employer well in advance. It is advisable to finish any pressing work commitments before undertaking surgery to ensure a stress free healing period.

Rhinoplasty is generally performed on outpatient basis, which means that the patient is able to return home the same day. In such a case, the patient should arrange for their transportation back home. It may be a good idea to arrange for help during the first few days of surgery for a more comfortable recovery.

The patient is advised to take proper night sleep prior to the surgery day. They should wear loose fitting clothes with front buttons on the day of surgery. This will reduce the chances of damaging their fragile nose while wearing or taking off clothes after the surgery.

Patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and other suburbs and communities in this section of The Golden State have an opportunity to receive rhinoplasty and other cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures from dedicated and wonderful cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Kim.

Rhinoplasty Plastic Surgery

Once the patient has selected the surgeon for rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery, a detailed pre-op consultation will be scheduled. The main purpose of such consultation is to exchange vital information for designing a customized surgery process.

The patient can use this opportunity to clarify their issues and concerns. The surgeon should also ensure that they inform the patient about the likely benefits, risks, and costs. Stellar, dependable, and plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim of Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery provides rhinoplasty to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and surrounding locations across the landscape.

Examining the Patient

Before the surgery is performed, it is important to carry out a full checkup of the patient to ensure that they are fit to undergo the procedure. For this purpose, the surgeon will assess the patient’s medical history during the initial consultation. They will also make an evaluation of the patient’s current health condition.

It is important that the surgeon prepares a customized plan for the patient based on the assessment of various factors including the existing shape and size of nose and the symmetry between various facial features. The surgeon may also advise the patient to undergo certain tests.

The patient should be ready to disclose their full medical history, medications and other habits such as smoking and substance abuse. The surgeon will carefully determine the patient’s candidacy during the consultation.

Determining Aesthetic Goals

While rhinoplasty may dramatically change the facial appearance, it is not a miracle. There are limitations attached to the procedure. In order to avoid later disappointments, it is important that the patient and the doctor agree on the outcomes of the procedure during the consultation. The patient may also show the surgeon the pictures of the various nose shapes they might want to have.

The surgeon may also show rhinoplasty before and after pictures to the patients to ensure that their expectations are realistic. The nose plastic surgery plan should be carried out after proper consultation between the surgeon and the patient.

Planning the Surgery

To create a customized surgery plan, the surgeon will inform the patient about various techniques used in nose surgery and their applicability in their case. Proper attention should be paid to the patient’s required outcome, their general health and other factors such as the type of anesthesia to be used.

Current Medications

During the consultation, the patient should disclose all the prescription and non-prescription medications they may be currently taking. They should also tell the surgeon about their use of supplements, herbs and recreational drugs, if any. The surgeon will appropriately guide the patient about stopping, continuing or adjusting the use of some of the medications and supplements.

Images and Testimonials

The surgeon may show rhinoplasty before and after pictures during the consultation to help patient understand the probable outcomes of the surgery. It also helps in developing realistic expectations for the patient. The patient may also ask the surgeon to present testimonials from past patients. Accomplished and innovative cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and other towns and communities in this area of the state for nose surgery.

Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty may seem to be a minor cosmetic surgery, but it involves delicate nuances. The surgery should ideally be performed by a fully qualified and trained surgeon in order to minimize the risks. However, all the surgeries are inherently risky, so it is crucial that that patient should be aware of the potential fallouts that may arise out of a surgical procedure including rhinoplasty.

These risk factors should be brought to the patient’s notice during the consultation stage itself. This will give the patient adequate time to make a decision.

The patient should be clearly informed about the risks and the steps to be undertaken for minimize them. plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides rhinoplasty to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and other neighborhoods and towns in this part of the country.

Potential Risk Factors

Some of the key risks attached to rhinoplasty procedure include:

Reducing Risk

Selecting a well-qualified and prolific surgeon is the first and foremost decision a patient can take to minimize the chances of an undesirable outcome in nose plastic surgery. Choosing the right surgeon will also ensure that the patient gets the results that they are looking for. The patient should try to ensure that the surgeon is well acquainted with the latest techniques and safety protocols.

Rhinoplasty is a safe yet complicated procedure where the surgeons try to strike a balance between a patient’s cosmetic goals and the limitations of surgery. The patient can aid the surgeon by following the pre-op and post-op instructions prescribed to them.

It is important that the patient shares vital information, including their medical history with their surgeon. The patient should also inform the surgeon about the medicines taken by them, including prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs and supplements.

Scarring Risks

Every surgical procedure including rhinoplasty comes with some risk of scarring. The chances of scarring can be eliminated in case of closed rhinoplasty where the incision is made inside the nostrils. In this case, there is no visible scar outside the nose. However, many of the rhinoplasty procedures are done through open technique where an incision is made across the columella. Unfavorable scarring may occur in rare cases if the incision is not placed discreetly or the scar heals poorly.

Risk of Disappointing Results

In a few cases, the patient may not like the outcome of rhinoplasty. Such cases may lead to revisional surgery, which carries additional risks. It is paramount that the patient and the surgeon have a clear understanding of the desired outcome. Judicious and tremendous cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and other neighborhoods and suburbs in this region of California for rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as nose reshaping surgery, is a popular cosmetic surgery designed to improve the shape or size of the nose in harmony with other facial features. Rhinoplasty is primarily used to enhance nose aesthetics, but may also be performed to correct functional problems such as nasal airway obstructions.

Congenital nose deformities and nose injuries can be correct with reconstructive rhinoplasty, while previous surgery can be improved with revision rhinoplasty procedures.

Ethnic rhinoplasty may be performed for patients with specific ethnic nasal characteristics. Impressive and committed ABPS plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides rhinoplasty to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and surrounding locations in this part of SoCal.

Candidacy

People who are unhappy with their existing shape or size of the nose, and want to achieve cosmetic corrections such as reduction or increase in the size of the nose, refining the nasal tip, removing a bump from the nose bridge, narrowing the nostril span, or altering the angle between the nose and the upper lip, can be good candidates for rhinoplasty plastic surgery.

Patients with nose injury, birth defects or breathing issues through the nostrils can also benefit from rhinoplasty. An ideal candidate will have a positive state of mind, clear goals, and realistic expectations. The candidate should ideally be above the age of 18, but in specific cases, teenagers may be considered for rhinoplasty.

Procedure

Rhinoplasty is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, but in exceptionally complex cases, the patient may need a short in-patient stay at the surgical facility. Depending on the extent of surgery involved, the procedure may be performed using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with light sedation. The procedure is usually completed in less than two hours.

Open and closed techniques can be used to perform rhinoplasty. If only limited corrections to the nose are involved, the surgeon may recommend closed rhinoplasty. This can be performed by placing small incisions inside the nostrils. The advantage is that no scarring will be visible on the outside, and the surgeon will perform the corrections through the incisions within the nostrils.

However, if significant modifications to the nose shape or size are involved, the surgeon may have to choose open rhinoplasty. This will require a small incision of about 4 to 5 mm to be placed on the columella, which is the thin strip dividing the nostrils.

Through this discreetly placed incision, in addition to tiny incisions within the nostrils, the surgeon will manipulate the tissue, cartilage and bone to make the required improvements to the nose appearance.

Dr. Kim will prefer to adopt closed technique when only minor improvement such as mitigating a nose bump is required. But if nose tip requires reshaping or another major surgery such as nose augmentation or reduction is involved, he will choose the open approach to have better surgical exposure. Accomplished cosmetic surgeon Dr. Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and nearby areas for rhinoplasty.

Most patients will be able to return to their normal routine in about one week after rhinoplasty. However, full establishment of results and complete recovery will require several weeks.
