Vogue Investigates “Less Invasive Liposuction”Unless youve been under a rock you have heard advertisements, received coupons, or seen promotions on the Internet promoting less invasive methods of liposuction. The October 2012 issue of Vogue reported on a new drove of body altering treatments that claim to deal with all of your pet peeves from muffin top to back fat. According to a recent industry article the Vogue article reported on two innovative leaders of the pack as CoolSculpting which freezes unwanted fat cells and Liposonix, an ultrasound device that heats and melts fat away. Both of these technologies take about an hour treatment and have little to no recovery time. According to the article you can literally hop off the table and return to work. However, the magazine reported specifically that, “None of them (these technologies) produce the dramatic results achieved with liposuction. In other words according to the article CoolSculpting and Liposonix are to liposuction what Botox is to a brow lift. Just last year liposuction was the number one most performed cosmetic surgical procedure that in the United States.  Medical professionals admit that the key to success with these new technologies is to know what they can and cannot do. The best patients or those who exercise regularly eat well to begin with and just had very small fat deposits that are stubborn and they cannot seem to lose. In reality this is a small percentage of the patient population. Dr. Kim advises patients that when choosing liposuction of any method, the results of the procedure are highly dependent upon the skill and talent of the surgeon. Patients need to be realistic concerning their expectations. Patients who are having abdominal liposuction may be a better candidate for abdominoplasty if there is an excessive amount of loose and lax skin. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure and patients should not expect weight loss. Final results for traditional liposuction are not complete until six months after the procedure. Patients must be good about diet and exercise following their body contouring procedures in order to experience lifetime results. Patients who are considering body contouring procedures are encouraged to contact Dr. Kims office and schedule a consultation.
