Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation Surgery Procedure StepsBreast enhancement procedure is currently ranked as the number one plastic surgery procedure in the United States. There are different techniques to performing the procedure. However, the steps involved in it largely tend to remain the same. Breast implant surgery is a highly customizable procedure.

Your surgeon will discuss the various steps involved in the procedure in detail during the pre-operative consultation. This will provide you with complete clarity about the procedure and things to expect during the surgery. Understanding what the procedure entails will also help you overcome your initial procedural anxiety.

plastic surgeon Dr. David Kim provides breast augmentation surgery to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and surrounding locations.

Anesthesia

The first step will be to place you under anesthesia. Typically, breast implant surgery is performed under general anesthesia. This will be administered by a registered anesthetist nurse or an anesthesiologist. It is possible for the patient to feel some nausea, grogginess, and other mild side effects for a few hours following the surgery.

Most patients are discharged the same day once the initial side effects of anesthesia wear off. You should have someone responsible take you home following the breast enhancement plastic surgery.

Incision Placement

The next step after anesthesia is the placement of incision. This will be made in pre-determined locations in a discreet manner. The incisions can either be made in the armpit or under the breast crease all the way to the lower half of the areola. Your surgeon will try and conceal scarring by placing the incisions in discreet locations.

Your surgeon will determine the location and size of the incisions while planning the surgery. They will take into account your personal cosmetic goals and breast anatomy.

Implant Placement

Breast implants can be either placed in front of the pectoral muscles or under the pectoral muscles. Your surgeon will decide where to place the implant after assessing the size of the implant and your unique breast anatomy. The limitations and benefits of each implant placement option will be discussed with you so that you can make an educated decision.

Closing the Incision

Your cosmetic surgeon will carefully suture the incisions close once the implants are placed and adjusted. They will either use absorbable or removable stitches for this purpose. You may have temporary drain tubes placed at the incision site under the skin. Your plastic surgeon will instruct you on keeping the incision place dry and free of contamination. This is to minimize the risk of infection.

Wear Surgical Bra

You would be asked to wear a special surgical bra following the removal of the initial bandages. You may have to wear this bra for a few weeks to help in faster recovery and healing. This is until your breast tissues settle with the new shape of your breasts. You should not hesitate in consulting with your surgeon if you notice any abnormal symptoms.

Make sure to maintain your follow-up appointments after the surgery as scheduled for best results. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. David Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA, and nearby areas for breast augmentation surgery.
